Grangemouth Women Getting Closer

After what seemed like a very long summer pre season Grangemouth stagettes welcomed garioch ladies to glensburgh for the first eagerly awaited league fixture of the season.

The first half was a very close affair with both sides making good breaks and excellent defence showing that both sides had worked well during pre-season.

Steph Shareen Dickson managed to put the ball down for the Grangemouth's only score of the game however had a close second which unfortunately was held up. Several holes in the Garioch defence were found by Claire Morrison who flew through the opposition showing all of the hard work done at preseason and created some of the best attacking play the side has seen for a while.

Half time came and the score was 5-5.

The second half was as closely contested as the first. A lot of fighting for possession which resulted in many line outs. Natalie Woods regularly reached for the stars and helped win the line outs for the Stagettes. Victoria Harper played like a demon with excellent ball carries which caught the opposition on the back foot and the pressure on the Garioch try line. Unfortunately, Garioch managed to put away two late tries in the last 20 minutes which ultimately swung the scoreline in their favour.

After a valiant effort from the Grangmouth ladies the final score was 5-15.

A special mention has to be given to Little Chris MacDougall who has undertaken the coaching of the stagettes and the impact and improvements are clear to be seen as the corresponding fixture last year resulted in a defeat by over 70 points.

A very promising start to the league by the stagettes.

Grangemouth Ladies train on Tuesday and Wednesday night at Grangemouth Rugby Club from 7pm to 8.30pm. If you are interested in playing or having a go please come down. Any skill and fitness level are welcome even if you have never played before.
