Stags rack up the tries at home to Morgan

With Santa visiting the children’s party at the club on Saturday he also gifted the 1stXV a 17 try win over an understrength Morgan. Morgan could only field 12 players and while Grangemouth loaned 3 players to even up numbers but it did little to even up the contest. The stags scored right from the kick off with a try by young Kyle Forsyth in under a minute. Further tries by Tom Skelton and Stu Allan, all converted by Tom took the score to 21-3 with less than 10 minutes scored. Morgan converted a solitary penalty for offside at a ruck but looked incapable of putting any pressure on the Grangemouth try line. Adam Hind continue the try fest in the 18th minute but Skelton missed the conversion in front of the posts. Converted tries by Gemmell and Jamieson followed in the 20th and 24th minutes before Morgan scored a unconverted forwards try by Graeme Bell, one of the guesting Grangemouth players. The first half was completed by a try from Skelton which he also converted giving a half time score of 43-8.
The 2nd half opened like the first with a converted try in the first minute this time by Ben Kerry. Two tries by Jordan Sloan in 3rd and 12th minutes took the score to 62-8. Grangemouth continued to score tries at regular intervals from Gemmell, Allan and Hind before veteran Mickey Parsons decided to stretch his legs (and his delicate hamstrings) by scoring twice in quick succession taking the score to 88-8. Jamie McNab decided to grab the try that took the score to 100 as he took the conversion himself. Not to be outdone, a good move from inside their own half saw Kuda Pedyo, also guesting for Morgan, run in the final 30 metres to take the score to 100 – 13. A final unconverted try closed the game at 105-13. While this was clearly a comprehensive win for the Stags, Morgan refused to cut the match short but played a full 80 minutes in a fairly competitive spirit. Unfortunately injuries in the 2nd half also saw Morgan eventually reduced to 13 players and uncontested scrums.
The Stags retain top spot in the league and by scoring 17 tries with 15 conversions retain a very healthy points differential. Unfortunately our scheduled league match next Saturday has already been postponed as our opposition is required to play an outstanding Bowl match.
