Stags increase try count with comprehensive display. Allan with four and Gibson bags three

For the third week in a row the Stags were at home last Saturday as Kinross made the short trip to Glensburgh for the latest round of league matches. The visitors had been struggling all season with numbers but had recorded a morale boosting win the previous week. Grangemouth were missing several regulars for various reasons. There were first outings of the season for Kinnear and Spence while Keighan, Noble, Stirling, Binnie and McNab all returned to the starting lineup. The rain during the week had left the pitch soft in places but conditions were otherwise perfect for rugby. The Stags made a good start. The forwards won a ball against the head at a midfield scrum. Skelton and Gibson combined to release Pedyo who was bundled into touch just short of the line. The visitors won the lineout but a loose clearing kick was collected by Gemmell who took play back to the Kinross 22. When the ball was secured at the breakdown good handling saw number 8 Gibson appear on the wing to beat the cover and score in the corner. The difficult conversion was wide. The lead was doubled on 10 minutes. Kinross tried to run out of defence but knocked on. The ball was moved wide to Pedyo who was tackled just short of the line. Kinnear popped a short pass for Noble to crash over from short range. Once again the conversion was wide. Try number 3 followed a few minutes later. From a solid scrum on the Kinross 22 Stangoe made the initial burst before passing to Gemmell. The fullback found Gibson in support to collect his second try. This time Skelton was on target with the conversion. As the game entered the second quarter tthe Stags collected the bonus point score. The forwards secured a lineout in the Kinross 22 and crisp handling by the backs saw Stangoe crash through for the try. Skelton added the extras. The scoring continued at regular intervals. From a lineout steal the backs took play up to the 22. The ball was switched back to the blindside where Pedyo beat his man on the outside before cutting back inside the fullback to score. Skelton added the conversion. With half time approaching the Stags stretched their lead with 2 further scores. Firstly Kinross conceded a 5 metre lineout after a McNab run. The forwards drove over the line after a clean catch and skipper Binnie was over for the try. Skelton was again on target with the kick. Then with the last play of the half Spence won a lineout before a loose pass in midfield was hacked forward by McNiff. Kinross were turned over at the breakdown and quick ball saw McNab release winger Allan wh rounded the cover before running in under the posts to leave Skelton a simple conversion. HT Stags 45 Kinross 0.

The one way traffic continued at the start of the second half. A run from Gemmell took play close to the Kinross line and from the resulting scrum the pack drove over the line with Gibson collecting his third try. Skelton added another conversion. Soon after a penalty on the Kinross 22 saw Skelton kick crossfield. The ball bounced nicely for Allan to collect and coast in for his second try. Skelton slotted the conversion. Kinross finally had a spell of possession in attack but solid defence from the home side soon had the visitors back in their own half. Stangoe had another powerful run before passing to the supporting Gibson. He duly slipped the ball to Allan who outpaced the cover to complete his hat trick and score in the corner. Skelton was successful with the difficult kick. Try number 11 came from a lineout take by Spence. Good hands in the backs saw substitute Sloan burst through between the centres to score under the posts to leave Skelton a simple kick. With 15 minutes to go Allan collected his 4th try. A break down the blindside saw the winger angle his run to beat his man on the inside before outpacing the cover to score. Skelton was again on target. From the kick off Sloan collected the ball deep inside his own half. He burst through the initial line of defence and brushed off several attempted tackles before finally being hauled down just short of the line. The ball was quickly recycled and Skelton was on hand to score in the corner. The stand off was unable to convert his own score. With 10 minutes still to play a scrum collapse resulted in a neck injury to a Kinross prop. Both sides agreed to end the match early while the player waited for the ambulance. Thankfully there was no serious injury to the player who was discharged from hospital later. FT Stags 85 Kinross 0

As he scoreline suggests this was a very easy victory for the local side. Credit is due to Kinross who pulled together a side who tried hard but were completely overpowered by a rampant Grangemouth side. There were strong performances throughout the side with Allan and Gibson sharing 7 trys between them. This week the Stags travel to Broughty Ferry to take on Panmure with KO 3pm
