Stags second best at Invergordon

A much changed side took the field at Invergordon to face Ross Sutherland in this rescheduled Caley league 1 fixture. With the annual visit to Orkney 7s and Steve Binnies stag weekend, senior players were rather scarce. Matters were further complicated with the late call off of Ally brown with work commitments.

At kick off we had four recognised first team players, three colts, second team guys and a couple of veterans in the shape of Ward and Brazier. Ward filling sub and bag duties in the first half.

Ross Sutherland kicked off and from the start the Stags were under pressure. Davy Angus playing at stand off in place of the running late Skipper was constantly harassed by the Ross back row and their eventual pressure saw the first score after 6 mins. Ross sensing that this was going to be a good day for them ran the ball and scored several more tries. All Grangemouth had to show for their efforts was a penalty from Graeme Alexander. HT 53-3.

Turning around the Stags were determined to put in a better showing in the second half. Defence and attack were much better and several good passages of play saw play taken close to the Ross line. The arrival of Skipper for the last 30 mins helped with our back play. A great combination between backs and forwards saw Chris MacDougal crash over for a well deserved score. Converted by Skipper

The display from the Colts players was excellent. Blair Archibold, Callum Gilchrist and Kyle Risk all showed up well in their first ever experience of senior rugby. Callum and Kyle have pace and troubled the Ross back line when they had ball in hand. Blair tackled his heart out in the back row. Well done guys!

While the final score of 81-10 was disappointing, all the players should be proud of their display. They turned out for the club in its hour of need, we fulfilled a fixture thereby not incurring a points deduction and rescheduled fixture and introduced some colts to senior rugby.
