Grangemouth Stags 69 Aberdeen University 7

It was back to league business at Glensburgh as the Stags welcomed the students from Aberdeen for the re-arranged fixture. The home side were missing some regulars with McIntyre, McInally and Mncube all unavailable but were able to welcome back McFarlane and McPherson after long layoffs. The students have had their own problems having already been deducted 9 league points and thrown out of the cup for fielding inelligible players. As kick off approached they clearly had further problems as they had travelled with only 13 players. Grangemouth were on top from the start and early pressure saw the ball spread wide to the left wing and Cuthbertson rounded his man and raced over in the corner. Shortly after this Hayes made a good break and Aberdeen carried over to concede a scrum 5 . McFarlane picked up and brushed aside some poor tackles to score under the posts. Skipper converted easily. Aberdeen lost another player as their winger had to leave the field with a leg injury. However despite being down by 3 players the students scored a converted try after their centre broke a tackle to score under the posts. The scores remained close until the last 10 minutes of the half when the Stags scored 3 trys. Firstly Whyte finished off a spectacular score as the Stags ran the ball from inside their 22 The next score saw another run by Cuthbertson up to the 22 and good link play allowed Skipper to score under the posts. With half time approaching the home backs worked a loop move to release Chisholm who passed to Hayes who crossed the line before passing to scrum half Wieczorek for an easy score. Half time 31 -7.

There was no let up from the Stags in the second half. Hayes scored the first try of the half as he took the ball on a switch to score. A few minutes later he scored again as the Stags took a quick tap penalty. The next try was scored by winger Alexander who finished off a good handling move to score under the posts. The Stags then ran the length of the field for their next score with the unlikely figure of hooker Stirling collecting the final pass to flop over the line. the one way traffic continued with Hayes starting a counter attack before linking with Mundie who fed Noble for another score. The final score came as the scrum was taken against the head and after the initial drive was halted the ball was fed back inside for Whyte to score his second try. Despite the clock still showing 12 minutes to go Aberdeen had had enough and the referee blew for full time. final score 69 - 7.

An easy win for the Stags against a side who despite being short of numbers competed well throughout. next saturday the Stags have another home game against Stirling University with a 3pm KO
