Great end to seasonn with win in final sevens tournament to take Forth valley Kings of Sevens crown

Grangemouth made the short trip to Sunnyside to complete the first series of the Forth Valley Sevens. With many of the normal squad absent on paintballing duties the Stags were forced to draft in a number of experienced (old) players with returns for Davie Angus, Stevie Binnie and Ronnie Innes. Only 6 teams turned up and they were split into 2 pools of three. The Stags opened against McLaren and found themselves a score down before running out comfortable winners 38-17 with trys from Mncube (3), Dempsey (2) and Pedyo. In their second pool match Grangemouth played Falkirk and demolished their hosts with a 59-0 win. Dempsey ran in four trys and Mncube (2), Randalls (2) and Serafini completed the rout. This set up the final against Strathendrick. The Fintry side had won all their pool games and had won their own sevens a few weeks ago defeating the Stags in the process. Strathendrick also fielded ex Stags captain Caine McIntyre in a rare outing in a sevens event. The final proved to be a high scoring and entertaining match. Grangemouth scored first with Dempsey going in under the posts before their opponents hit back with 2 scores to lead 12 -7. However before half time Mncube scored twice to give the Stags a 19-12 lead at the break. Once again Strathendrick hit back and added another 2 trys to lead 24-19. However Grangemouth then added 3 more scores from Mncube (2) and Dempsey before Strathendrick added a consolation score with the last play to leave the final score 36 -31. And so after being runners up twice in previous weeks the Stags finally won a sevens tournament and Mncube duly collected the William Scott trophy. This was a good all round performance by the Stags with Mncube and Dempsey dominating the scoring with 17 of the 21 trys. In the final of the plate McLaren defeated Alloa while in the bowl final Stirling County edged out Falkirk to take 5th place. A big thanks to all at Falkirk for organizing the tournament and hopefully more teams will turn out next season.

Squad:
David Angus, Stevie Binnie, Gary Dempsey, Ronnie Innes, Jamie McNab, Graham McNiff, Aubrey MnCube, Cuda Pedyo, Kyle Randalls and Calum Serafini.
