Dear Caledonia clubs,
We hope you are all as excited as us about the new season that has already started for some of you and will start for others in the coming weeks.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind clubs of our expectations of clubs, to improve the match day experience for you the clubs and our members, the Match Officials’.
• Early communications – As per SRU guidelines, clubs are to make positive contact with the match official team (including referee coaches) no later than the Thursday evening.
Positive communication is 2 way and so match officials will equally be responsible for responding to clubs. If you are looking to change kick off time or location, we ask you let
match officials know earlier in the week as they may not be able to make a different kick off time.
• Team sheets – as per the competition rules, clubs must have a printed copy of the team
sheet for the match official no later than 30mins before Kick-off. In some occasions a
Match Official may accept an email or phone message with the teamsheet but this is at
the Match Officials discretion and should be a last resort for clubs.
• Match day conduct – we are extremely disappointed to have already had an incident of Match Official Abuse this season in the Caledonia region. We ask clubs to remind their members that Referees are volunteers and are not professionals. Some of our members may be taking up refereeing for the first time or still be very new into their Match Official journey. We recognise most clubs demonstrate great examples of rugby community and our Match Officials have a great time with your clubs and we commend you for your efforts. However, we ask that you continue to press the importance of respect in rugby to your members to improve everyone’s match day experience.
• Scottish Rugby Law Trials – We trust that you are all aware of the new law trials for this
coming season, that are very well explained in the Rugby Ready Course on SCRUMS. If
you have any questions about the law trials, or the laws in general, please contact your
local referee society if you would like one of our members to come to your training and
work with you, we would love to help out.
Thank you for your time and continued support. All the best for this season we look forward to sharing the pitch with you this season
